I’d had a project in mind for a couple of years: to shoot someone nude while they were holding kung-fu poses. The idea came from seeing the more flamboyant routines of Chinese opera and wondering what it would like in a more dramatic black and white of fine art nude images.

Early on, I’d decided I wanted a dancer since they’d have to be able to respond to intricate detail of angles, poise, stance and also be able to hold a position for a while. Beth Kate was excellent throughout.
